From Tiny Seeds Grow Big Ideas

The Seedy Saturday event is back! Georgian Bay Mnidoo Gamii Biosphere (GBB) invites everyone to ‘dig’ into this local seed-swapping and garden knowledge sharing event on Saturday, March 7th from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Canadore College’s West Parry Sound Campus. Free to attend, there will be refreshments, workshops, local vendors, seeds by donation or swap, and activities for kids.

Seedy Saturday is designed to bring new and experienced gardeners together to make growing local food as accessible as possible, and to promote seed varieties that aren’t always widely available. This event is part of a national series that was created out of a love for heirloom plants and gardening as well as community knowledge and local food access.

In addition to the seed swap tables which are the heart of the event, new this year is a gardening tool swap table! The table follows the old adage: if you need a tool, take a tool; if you have a tool, leave a tool. Garden hand tools, gloves, shears, and other equipment can be dropped off to the GBB office at 125 William Street in Parry Sound  on weekdays from 8:00am – 4:00pm until the event.

“Seedy Saturday is all about making gardening more accessible. Whether you’re planting your first seed or have been saving seeds for years, Seedy Saturday is a great place to learn, share, and get inspired for the growing season ahead,” says Delaina Arnold, Community Programs Coordinator with GBB. “There is always such a buzz at the event with tables full of seeds, great conversations, and lots of excitement for spring. It really is a simple idea with a big impact.”

Drop by the event to swap your seeds, share knowledge, and check out local vendors selling maple syrup, honey, food, seeds and so much more!
